HO CHI MINH CITY, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Lottery companies in Vietnam's southern region racked up big profits in the first half of this year, while their peers
in the central and northern regions made poorer performances, according to
statistics from the Finance Ministry released on Friday.
The Vietnamese lottery market is worth nearly 3 billion U.S. dollars a year, and all lottery firms in the southern region made profits of hundred of billions
of Vietnamese dong in the January-June period.
The Ho Chi Minh City Lottery Company topped of the list with total revenues of 3,474 billion Vietnamese dong (155.8 million U.S. dollars) and pre-tax
profits of 494 billion Vietnamese dong (22.1 million U.S. dollars) from January
to June. Due to big profits, the company paid each employee a monthly salary of
15 million to 35 million Vietnamese dong (673-1,570 U.S. dollars).
Meanwhile, Tien Giang Lottery Company in southern Tien Giang province gained total revenues of 1,795 billion Vietnamese dong (80.5 million U.S. dollars), and
pre-tax profits of 326.7 billion Vietnamese dong (14.6 million U.S. dollars).
According to statistics from the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance, all 64 lottery companies in Vietnam make total revenues of over 63,000 billion
Vietnamese dong (over 2.8 billion U.S. dollars) a year, of which 21 firms in the
southern region contributed over 55,300 billion Vietnamese dong, 29 in the
northern region with 3,200 billion Vietnamese dong, and 14 in the central region
with 4,500 billion Vietnamese dong respectively.
