Hydroxyethylidene diphosphonic acid (C2H4O11P2 – HEDP) has recently been advocated as an additive in kraft pulping to accelerate
delignification and to increase pulp yield. Unlike anthraquinone,
another additive often used in kraft pulping, the action of HEDP is
species dependent. This work was done to detail the species dependence
and to understand how HEDP accelerates kraft pulping.
