WASHINGTON, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Existing home sales in the United States rebounded in September boosted by increasing first-time buyers, ending a
two-straight month fall, an industry report showed Thursday.
Total existing home sales, which are completed transactions that include single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums and co-ops, increased 3.2 percent
from August to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.47 million in September,
0.6 percent above a year ago, said the National Association of Realtors (NAR).
The strong sales of existing home in September were propelled by sales from first-time buyers reaching a 34-percent share, which is a high not seen in over
four years, said the NAR.
"There's hope the leap in sales to first-time buyers can stick through the rest of the year and into next spring," said NAR chief economist Lawrence Yun in
a statement.
"The market fundamentals, primarily consistent job gains and affordable mortgage rates, are there for the steady rise in first-timers need to finally
reverse the decline in the homeownership rate," said Yun.
Total housing inventory at the end of September rose 1.5 percent to 2.04 million existing homes available for sales, which represents a 4.5-month supply
at the current sales pace, lower than the 4.6 months in August.
The median existing home price for all housing types in September was 234,200 U.S. dollars, 5.6 percent above the level a year ago, the 55th consecutive month
of year-over-year gains.

World body, the IAAF rules of eligibility meant the time is not recognised as a world record and having come close to breaking Kimetto's mark in 2015,
Kipchoge believes now is the time to add his name to the illustrious list of
marathon record holders.
""About three weeks ago we had a big fight in Las Vegas between Mayweather and McGregor but there was only one winner, that is Mayweather. So, between the
three of us there will be only one winner,"" the philosophical athlete told a
local website.
""I don't know but I will be among the three,"" the twice London winner said when asked whether he would be the 'Mayweather' of the day.
Kipchoge signed a one-year deal to be the ambassador of Japanese car maker, Isuzu D-Max brand, worth 68,000 U.S. dollars where he was presented with a new
model of the truck for his training and personal use.
And should he, as expected, smash the world record, Kipchoge will receive a luxury double cabin truck valued at 57,365.09 dollars from the same company.
""This is a boost in my journey to the world record and mentally, it is a good thing for me looking ahead to Berlin. Some percentage of my work is done
because of this incentive,"" the Athens 2004 bronze and Beijing 2008 silver

Kipchoge has won seven out of his eight career marathons thus far, his only defeat coming in 2013 when he ran 2:04:05 to trail Kipsang where it took a then

At 2015 Berlin Marathon, he was inside the world record but the in-soles of his custom made running shoes popped out slowing his final assault but he still
came home victorious in 2:04:00 that was the fastest time of the year.
His other victories at the distance came in Rotterdam (2013), Chicago (2014), London (2015 and 16) and the Rio Olympics last summer.

RIGA, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Large amounts of hazardous chemicals were discovered in a former industrial territory in the Latvian capital Riga on
Friday, a representative of the State Environmental Service said.
On Friday, the State Fire and Rescue received a callout to former industrial grounds in Purvciems neighborhood where large amounts of chemicals, including
barium hydroxide, a highly toxic chemical, had been found in various packaging.
The premises are being used by various companies.
Environmental inspectors, as well as police and rescuers arrived at the scene to assess the situation and take measures to prevent possible damage from the
chemicals.
Viktorija Gribuste, a representative of the State Fire and Rescue Service, said that it was difficult for the rescuers to immediately assess the situation
as it was getting dark. It was also not clear if any of the chemicals had leaked
into the environment. Gribuste said that the rescuers were fencing off the
territory.
