Both KLM and BA show confidence in the marketing prospect of their operations in Chengdu, in spite of the growing number of direct flights from the city to Europe. KLM revealed it had plans to increase flights between Chengdu and Amsterdam and was considering to replace the aircraft of its squadron on the flight with Boeing 787 Dreamliner, as a way to celebrate the 10th anniversary of launch of the flight. The company said its Chengdu-Amsterdam direct flight maintained an attendance rate of 80% - 85% even during the off-season days while the attendance rate for the busy season reached 90%.
Meanwhile, BA has introduced a series of promotional activities for the flight, including favorable prices for consumer groups. For example, students studying in the UK will have special offers and preschool kids will enjoy free flying, in order to celebrate the birth of the new princess of the UK.
