Nadeem rejects Bollywood offer

The winds of change are blowing and the powerful film media will regain its lost glory. Young directors like Ajab Gul, Mubasher Lucman and Reema are making efforts in this regard. Commitment and sincerity towards work are the key words that can change Lollywood's fortunes and I see that these directors have accepted the challenge.

Lollywood superstar Nadeem stated this after watching a special screening of the promos of Ajab Gul's upcoming film Kyon tum say itna piyar hai. Nadeem is playing a major role in the film along with actors Talat Hussain, Ajab Gul, Veena Malik, Meera and Deeba. The film produced by Saqib Khan is the brainchild of Ajab Gul, who besides directing it has also prepared the film's music as well as written the story. Writer Rukhsana Noor and film promoter Agha Hanif were also present on the occasion.

"There is lack of commitment among our filmmakers these days. Thinking that filmmaking is easy work they want to do everything in a hurry. They want to finish the film in record time and it fails to make any record at the box office. Good film requires a lot of time for completion," Nadeem said.

He said he himself has been toying with the idea of directing a film for many years now. "But I am afraid to embark on such a project. The budget of films has gone very high now. But the main reason is that if I start a film project, people would have very high expectations from me. I don't want to lose all that I have earned in my whole life through one film," he maintained.

He said he was recently offered a role in a Bollywood flick but did not accept it. "Being a senior artiste I have to be very careful in selecting the project. I think there is no harm in acting in Indian films but before taking up any project we must keep the honour of our film industry in mind. Artistes should ensure that their performances do not damage the industry in any way. This goes for the co-productions as well.

"The world has changed. You cannot survive in isolation. You have to move with the world and be in a position to compete. Practically we do not have qualified people in the industry. But with time things would change.

"Therefore, there is no harm in hiring the services of Bollywood's technical people in areas where we lack expertise."

Nadeem praised Ajab Gul film hoping that it would help revive the industry. "I have seen the trailer. The film's shots and the acting of artistes look marvelous. It is even better than my expectations. Those who are doing good work must be encouraged and people should appreciate the effort of Ajab Gul."

"I remember the great filmmaker Nazarul Islam. The film was always on his mind and he would not talk about anything else. Just the love for filmmaking would not do. You have to have that craze, which was there in the directors and filmmakers of yesteryears. Our industry used to compete with Indian film industry. We can revive that spirit of excellence once we all sincerely start working," he said.
