News49ers Press Conferences & Conference Calls2019 NFL Draft: 49ers

PDTShareTweetShareShareWhat does the Giants disinterest in Dwayne Haskins mean
for the 49ers? Mock drafts have been following a strange formula. At No. 1, it’s
the Cardinals taking Kyler Murray. No. 2-5 is the trio of Quinnen Williams, Josh
Allen, and Nick Bosa getting taken off the board along with someone else to fill
that slate. No. 6 has been somewhat consistent with the Giants taking Dwayne
Haskins. Last week, there were numerous reports that the Giants were not
interested in Haskins and weren’t going to be doing much work. On ESPN’s
Breaking Big Blue podcast, Dianna Russini went into detail on how quarterback
may not be in the Giants’ plans: So what does this mean? Well it might make
trading, at least for Haskins, not happening at No. 2. The Giants were the ones
many thought would put up the draft capitol to go get Haskins at No. 2,
leapfrogging the Oakland Raiders. If the Giants aren’t interested in Haskins,
that leaves him for the Raiders and eliminates the two-way bidding war to get
him. At No. 7, behind the Giants Womens Tom Rathman Jersey ,is the Jacksonville Jaguars. They will need a quarterback, but they signed Nick Foles and won’t be wanting to do a trade this
year for one. Then there’s the Denver Broncos at 10, the Cincinnati Bengals at
11 and Miami Dolphins at 13. Of those three, the Dolphins would be the ones to
really make an investment, but to trade all the way down to the No. 2 spot for a
quarterback is going to take an awful lot. Plus, now that the Giants have two
draft picks and aren’t looking at Haskins, that makes them a more valuable trade
partner. 13 to 2 is much more expensive than 13 to 6. If the Raiders show any
interest in a quarterback and the Dolphins want Haskins, then the No. 2 trade
becomes a possibility, but it won’t be cheap and Haskins is a player highly
unlikely to command that kind of deal. These three teams may be battling it out
for someone else besides Dwayne Haskins. The Broncos have been linked to
quarterbacks and other teams could go into No. 8 or 9 to keep John Elway from
getting his QB of the future. Any way you look at it, if the Giants don’t take
Haskins it’s going to make any team in the teens think twice about offloading
draft picks to pass the Raiders. That is assuming the Raiders want Haskins at
all. All of this is dependent on the Cardinals going with Murray. If they pass
on him, the Giants and Raiders could then maybe pounce for No. 2, but if they
weren’t going to get to No. 1 for him, one spot doesn’t seem like much of a
difference in this scenario. So unless someone reaaaaaaaallllly wants Bosa, the
49ers might not be able to get out of the No. 2 pick. Burning questions now the
story of the season" />Skip to main contentclockmenumore-arrownoyesHorizontal

News49ers Press Conferences & Conference Calls49ers will have some
storylines in 2019New,23commentsBurning questions now the story of the
seasonPDTShareTweetShareShare49ers will have some storylines in 2019Storylines.
Besides the clear spirit of competition and the modern day gladiators football
brings us Mike McGlinchey Jersey , the storylines keep it going. The Jim Harbaugh/Trent Baalke feud from 2015 was one of the greatest and may have been
the story of the season for the NFL. The story of Eric Berry overcoming cancer
with the Kansas City Chiefs is something heartwarming and always good to read
again and again. The 49ers will have some good storylines in 2019. For one, is
the Kyle Shanahan/John Lynch partnership truly working? Thanks to some reports,
that will be something we’ll be keeping an eye on whether it’s true or untrue.
Or is Jerick McKinnon’s career going to be getting elevated after coming back
from an ACL tear? ESPN put together the stories of the season for each NFL team
and 49ers blogger Nick Wagoner thinks the story will surround Jimmy Garoppolo.
This is going to be huge. Garoppolo crashed and burned in training camp for 2018
and while not anywhere near awful, had a few head scratching decisions. He’s
only played 10 games so this can be the season that defines him. Well, if he can
make it through 16 games. I think the bigger story is still a question and
that’s if the Kyle Shanahan/John Lynch partnership will work. This has stakes
far beyond the 49ers. If the 49ers can make a tear in the league and into the
playoffs, it will give a good barometer of how long it should take an NFL team
to get things turned aroundwith a less than stellar roster. Not everyone is Jim
Harbaugh walking into an underachieving 49ers squad or Bill Belichick getting
the New England Patriots with Drew Bledsoe. The 49ers started things with the
great roster purge of 2017 cleaning Trent Baalke’s decisions out of the
building. They’ve gone through three offseasons of drafts and free agencies and
now are looking to be competitive. If it takes a team three years to do such a
thing, it’s something teams will look to rather than evaluate a head coach after
a terrible first year doesn’t go well (which the 49ers did for Chip Kelly and
Jim Tomsula, but who’s keeping track?). The time it takes to turn a roster
around is not just an overnight process. It also will emphasize how important it
is that a general manager and head coach working together is in the scheme of
things. In the past, egos can get in the way or friction from one side or the
other causes more drama. If this works, it can be a good point to make for NFL
coaching staffs and front offices on how important being in sync with visions is
for the better of the franchise. This was Baalke’s biggest problem, he wanted
his team his way and the coaches to deal with it and was less interested in what
a coach desired or needed to run their system. This method could have made
coaches reluctant to come to San Francisco and also contributed to his firing.
It also would prove that the six-year contracts to both Shanahan and Lynch were
justified, something that had a lot of naysayers in the aftermath of the
signing. Remember how everyone was wondering how this partnership would work?
What do you think the story of the season for the 49ers will be?
