POST resisted the urge to buy some Birkenstocks for about couple of years. They're pretty pricey for a sandal, and I just didn't discover how long the crunchy sandal look could well be in vogue, especially in New york City where I survive.
Then I got a great annoying, mysterious foot pain, and my podiatrist laughed and said I couldn't wear just about any super flat shoes—effectively ruling out every single pair of sandals WE owned—right as summer has been rounding the corner.
So I did it—I torn in two the trigger and bought a couple orgeous, supportive, white Birkenstocks. My feet were happy. My wallet would get used to it. But I was obsessed.
At the moment, I was gearing up for a big trekking trip throughout Peru with REI Escapades; we'd be spending a few days in Cusco, Peru, hiking Macchu Picchu and heading up to the actual high Andes mountains for just a multi-day lodge-to-lodge trek. I needed to bring a couple of sandals that would keep my foot injury out of flaring up (especially with all the current time I'd be spending hiking), and could serve when my ~chill~ sandals from the lodges or while running around town...but I sure as hell wasn't planning to bring my shiny white, brand-new Birkenstocks on you will need hiking trip, complete along with llamas and alpacas galore. Le dilemma.
Luckily, somewhere on-line, I stumbled across the waterproof version with the classic Birkenstock Arizona sandals—and for less than 50 % of the $100+ asking price of the leather along with cork versions. (FYI, you're not supposed to get the particular classic Birks super wet because doing so can damage the leather-based and compromise the sealant, reported by the brand. )
This time around, I didn't even endeavor to resist; I snagged some black Birkenstock Arizona Necessities (Buy It, $45, amazon. com), which are made of EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) a super light plastic polymer that may be flexible and feels pretty much like foam under you a.
And, TBH, I almost hate to speak about it, but I might even love these babies a lot more than the originals. Because they're manufactured from EVA, they're totally water-proof, easy to clean, float if you ever drop them in the body of water, and are also insanely comfortable. While they are not quite as supportive as being the classic cork Birkenstocks (which are known for being great for your paws, thanks to their orthotic-like footbeds), they're much more comfortable, since the EVA presents cushion-like give. It can evoke you're walking on very small memory foam platforms.
I've since worn these people for long walks around Los angeles City, to the seashore, on boats, around your property, and for walks inside woods—these things go just about everywhere and still look spotless. I bought a ebony pair because I assumed I'd get them dirty, although after seeing how quickly they rinse off, I would need to buy a number of their bright colorways also. (Which, honestly, at merely $45, who can withstand?!) The brand now offers 11 different colors belonging to the waterproof sandal on Amazon, which includes khaki green, bright red, coral, metallic copper, in addition to scuba blue. They have a creamsicle orange coloration that's, like, pure, summer joy in the shoe.
Reviewers agree that these sandals is the freaking best; 75 percent from the 6, 814 reviewers on Amazon provide them with five stars, and there're also ranked a #1 Finest Seller on Amazon to get women's slide sandals. You reviewer, who has damaged leather Birks for "about SOMETHING LIKE 20 years now, usually obtaining a new pair every couple of years" says that they thought i would give the EVA State of az Essentials a shot, and appeared loving them: "I wore these virtually any day for about 8 months and I'm sure I could probably keep taking a while, but they are looking a bit worn. I am just impressed with these. Personally i think as though I definitely got my $40 worth people out of them. " The particular reviewer also mentions which "for $40, these are a good introduction to the who aren't ready to pay the big bucks for the leather versions, and they are also a great deal for people who like Birkenstocks but will need something waterproof. "
For anyone who is interested but not to the traditional double-strap style, you can even grab a pair health of their Barbados Essentials slides (Buy It, $40, amazon. com), Gizeh Necessities T-strap sandal (Buy This, $45, amazon. com), or possibly pair of the Birkenstock Honolulu Sandal (Buy It, $40, amazon. com), a new supportive flip flop, from the same EVA material.
All I can say is that once you've tried a couple Birks (leather or EVA) you can not go back—you'll be connected.
