Pakistani composer accuses Nikhil-Vinay of plagiarism

We are used to listening to lifted tunes in Bollywood films every now and then. And often the source of inspiration has been our neighboring country Pakistan. So it didn’t come in as a surprise to us when a popular musician from Pakistan, Faisal Latif wrote in to us bringing into our notice that a chartbuster track from his album has been blatantly copied in a Hindi film called Sitam.

Highlighting about his composition Latif says, “I composed and sang this song about six years ago and it was released by Sound Master in Pakistan. It is the poetry of most noted poet Ibn-e-Insha (late). The song instantly became so popular that it boosted my identity as a singer in the country. The video of this song remained in the top ten charts for more than a year”. The song in question is ‘Maya Hai Sab Maya Hai’ that has Nikhil-Vinay as composers on the album cover credits.

He further adds, “I wonder how in this age of globalization, when there are so many satellite channels and other IT sources, one could remain unaware or pretend that others would also remain unaware of what is going on in the music scene of the neighboring country. One would sure have to have a lot of guts to do this
