in Islam men and women have equal rights
except the right of LEADERSHIP (reserved to men)

a leader,, or lets say
MEN ARE PROTECTORS AND MAINTAINORS OF WOMEN

does it mean one who cant fulfil his duty cant declare himself as a leader
Posted 02 Nov 2005

Its a God-given task and only he can take account of it - to put it in simple terms.

You can also see it as us men having double the responisibility and not as this power struggle of the genders/dominance that a lot of feminists wave their banners about. Men have the responsibilty of leadership and it makes sense because of the physical side, women are more vulnerable than men, it's an anatomical fact.

Equality in my eyes means both men and women carrying out their own duties and not trying to do everything themself, because women do the housework and look after the kids it doesn't make them any less than a man, vice versa men are expected earn the money, that doesn't make them any better than wome - and doesn't mean that one can't do what the other can. Both are playing their part.

Sorry I misread your question,
"does it mean one who cant fulfil his duty cant declare himself as a leader"
Yes in essence, but if a women can't fulfil her duties as a mother and wife does she disqualify as one?

Wrong to kher is issue main aap hargiz nahee hain. likin like to add something kay agar kisi family kay sab se bara male person dies like Father and his wife is alive then usually in our society Mother is the leader of Family. She take decision regarding family and in lot of cases business etc.

Mere khayal main to jo ghar ka bara hota hay wohee leader bhee hota hay is main Male or Female kee to koee qaid nahee hay.
I want to narrate my own house example. Our grandmother is the leader of house. Althoug my fathers and his brother fullfil all the requirements of her like giving her an amount monthly basis but they dont make any decision without her permission.

and as far as the Islamic limits are concern So not only females but males should also know their limits.

Thanks,

i think we shouldnt follow blindly examples of society, yeah sure sometimes they can b right but most of the time they just drag u down.

society has always portrayed a man as the bread winner, and the woman as the home maker.

a man if he is fulfilling his duty on purpose, i.e he is perfectly capable of getting a job, and he doesnt, or if he walks out his family immidiatly disqualifies his right to b the protector or mintainor of the family.

same goes for the woman.

a man cos he is physically stronger and without him a family would b incomplete is known as the leader,

but that does not mean he is the maintaintor, cos without a woman he cant keep a family running. a woman both physically and mentally maintains the family with the way she organises the children, time, and the household.

today both a woman and man share equal duties both outside and inside of the home and that has brought more equality, (not ina bad way). if the man is away the woman looks after the family, and house and if the woman is away the man does that.

i dont think ther eis a concept of leadership today among a family, cos thank god male chovanism and feminism concepts have finished. both man and woamn r maintainors who work for a family, without either the family life and house would b incomplete.

If you think leadership as to rule the family then u are right but if u mean to administrate then u r wrong. There is always a person in every family who is the administrator.

this is not entirely correct. only men can lead congregations in which men are present as in Prayer, armed forces, etc. women can lead congregations which consist of women only (women only prayers, tablighi jamaats etc). same applies to a home. if there is no (baligh) man, then a woman can lead.

SALL said:

protectors and mainainers are not called leaders. protection and maintainence is men's relegious duty and responsibility, as looking after the kids is the duty of women. in case of need, both men and women can help each other in carrying out their duties. this has nothing to do with leadreship.

now probably you are referring to protection/maintenance and not real leadership. Islam does not allow a man to marry if he cant maintain a family, perform his duties and give them (family) their right (protection/maintenace). Although marriage will be valid but he will Gunahgaar.
