so many of members here i noticed take QURAN word by word...correct? i remember there was a debate here while back about Holy prophet (PBUH) being last prophet, and few more issues...and most members gave their reasoning from quranic verses...saying look this is what quran says...literally..instead of trying to understand the deeper meaning of it...

so for those...who take quran literally, i have a question for u...( i know the answer, i wanna hear from u)

r muslims allowed to marry non-muslims?

according to the Qu'ran, u can marry a christian girl coz we believe in the same God. But one of the conditions is that your children must be muslims, coz Islam is the last revealed religion.

P91, I don't really think it is a condition for children to be Muslims.
Allah swt said, "every soul bears its own burden". Children may or may not accept Islam as their religion. Allah will ask us only about weather we taught our children about Islam or not and did our best to keep them muslims. Once they grow up and choose their religion differently, then its their responsibility and their burden to carry. Of ourse we would very much love for our children to true Muslims like the concern of prophet Yaqoob AS. Prophet Yaqoob asked his sons before death, "who would you worship after me" they replied, "we will worship the God of you, the God of your fathers, Ibrahim and Ismail and Ishaq."

On the other hand, son of prophet Nuh AS was not a believer and so was drowned with the disbelievers of his time. When prophet Nuh implored Allah to save his son, Allah swt refrained Nuh AS from asking for it as his son was among the unjust. Allah swt gives that as an example of two individuals even though related by blood but are oposite in belief and that Allah is just to treat them by their belief and not for each others acts.

ok what i have inferred frm this whole discusssion is dat Allah prohibits making christians or jews our true frnds but as a NATION Or     GROUP not as an individual

              examplify this by one example .When hazrat MUhammad[pbuh],s nawasehazrat hussainra] was in karbala then his opponent was a muslim [yazeed] who did nt follow the sunnat and was against the fundamental values of islam .he was the 1 who destroyed KABA once in his life and hazrat Hasain[ra] was against his policies .So to protect the religion he raised arms and in his fight against the cruel yazeed there were 2 Christians wid him .
now v cant say that those christians were our enemies .can v? they were our frnds who stood by hazrat hussain[ra] to assist him

        so marrying some other ahlekitab is choice of individual not the whole group

of course u can't know if ur children will b muslims or not, but u have to try ur best, that's what i think, simply coz islam is the last revelation, the truth.

I think is topic main aap ka pupose sirf critisize karna hi tha, otherwise you know there is no contradiction in the verses you mentioned. Anyways..

Conditions?

"one of the conditions is that your children must be muslims" (penelope91), that is what a common Muslim knows in plain language. SD, i agree to you, but you replied in a GOL MOL language.

you didnt stated clearly what is our responsibility is this regard, to make them a good muslim. During their childhood, we can not allow them to learn or our non muslim wife to teach them any relegion other than Islam, otherwise we will be comitting a major sin. We have to teach them (or provide them with a teacher to teach) Islam. Then, after puberty, as you said, they will be free to make their own decisions. If we know that these conditions cant be met then its not allowed for us to marry a non muslim woman.

Children must be muslims would simply mean (as it appears to me) children must be grown as we grow our childern from muslim women as a muslim. Its not like enforcing them to be muslim. Similarly we cant make any agreement like half of the children will be taught Islam and half christianity/judaism. If we agreed to even for one of the children to be non muslim, we will be comitting kufr.

SD, you mentioned the son of Hazrat Noah who was a non muslim. I cant see any any relation between this case and his being a non muslim despite his father being a Prophet. Is it prooved that he was born after Hazrat Noah's Prophethood? Or that Hazrat Noah married a non believing woman after his prophethood? Both of these are not true (most probably acording to history/traditions). What we know is that his son didnt accepted his prophethood and Islam after he announced his prophethood. He was already a mature man. Similar is the case with the wife of Hazrat Loot who didnt accepted Islam. How can it be conneted to marrying a non muslim and growing childern as muslims?

I was missing from JB at that time, and when when i came back you were missing. I was going to explain those verses, and explained only one (out of 5 DL mentioned) but dropped the rest because I thought you wont come back and read them (and others may not be interested). Read my last post in that topic and see how badly DL translated the verse. If you need answers to other Questions raised by you too i will post them too. (But I wont be there again for next 2 to 3 weeks).
