New Jordans 2016 is kicking off its 2016 "Alternate" collection — which imagines what MJ's player-exclusive designs may have looked like — with the "Alternate '89" edition of the Air Jordan 4 and now we have a concrete drop date for the second entry in the range. Dubbed the "Alternate '90," the special take on the Air Jordan 5 comes in low-top form and pairs a black nubuck upper with the silhouette's signature reflective 3M tongue as red accents hit everything from the lining and midsole to the rubber outsole, lace locks and Jumpman branding. Featuring black nubuck through the uppers and most of the midsole, the brand has then added red hints on the liner, Jumpman logo, flames and translucent sole. Transparent mesh paneling is also used and what appears to be a 3M tongue. For sneakerheads that know their history, a similar pair was made for Derek Anderson.
New Air Jordan Shoes Giving a nod to Player Exclusives, the "Alternate '90" edition of the classic low-top Air Jordan 5 is dressed in the Chicago Bulls early colors – giving a look at what Michael Jordan could have worn during that era. Featuring a full Black-based upper, the shoe is highlighted with Red accents throughout, including a full Red translucent outsole. Since Jordan Brand's "Alternate Collection" draws inspiration from the Chicago Bulls, all of the three sneakers that are included in it are in varying renditions of the classic "Bred" color scheme. The Air Jordan 4 from the collection is the one that stands out the most because unlike the other two, its tumbled leather upper is in clean White rather than ominous Black. As for the Air Jordan 5 "Alternate '90," it actually was a Player Exclusive pair back in the 90s that Jordan Brand had crafted for Derek Anderson, who used to be the guard and small forward of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Jordans 2017 "Alternate Collection" has showed us a number of awesome Chicago-centric colorways that just never left the sample shelf in a bit of revisionist's history. The Air Jordan 4 featured a clean white tumbled leather base and bright red accents throughout. Now it's the Air Jordan 5 Low's turn. It isn't the first time that an Air Jordan 5 will nod at an unreleased sample as last year's Air Jordan 5 "Midnight Navy" did the same. The combination of black and red on the Air Jordan 5 Low "Alternate" is a familiar aesthetic, but is accomplished in a new way thanks to a translucent red outsole and matching lining. The traditional 3M cement grey tongue returns to match the black base. The Air Jordan 5 Low Alternate 90 joins the "Alternate" Collection from Jordan Brand, which will have three shoes in the series. Just like the other models, the Jordan 5s was created if Michael Jordan player exclusives were made. It's actually worth noting that there were some original Air Jordan 5 PE’s made back in 1990, but they are nothing like they are today.
