Pele Brazil Jersey . -- Ryan Blaney bolted past Kyle Busch on a restart with six laps remaining and won Fridays NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway for his second career victory. It was a surprising finish after Busch, seeking to become the first driver to win four consecutive races in the series on the 0.533-mile oval, had dominated for much of night, especially on restarts. Battling at various times against the youngest and brightest stars in the series, Busch generally made quick work of them. He led 161 of the 300 laps and seemed poised for his record 67th victory in the series. But on the final restart, he was holding back, as was his prerogative as the leader, until Blaney suddenly darted to the lead from the inside line, cleared Buschs car and sailed off to the victory. "Kyle didnt go on that last restart," Blaney said, referring to the marked area on the track wall inside which the leader is supposed to accelerate, with the rest of the field following his lead. "He said his tires were jacked up and we got to the second line and we just went," Blaney said. Busch managed to get close to Blaneys bumper, but that was it. "I was driving my guts out trying to stay ahead of him," Blaney said. Busch, meanwhile, seethed like he had something taken away from him. "My rear tires werent on the race track and I couldnt accelerate," he said, suggesting Regan Smith, restarting behind him, had lifted Buschs car off the track to eliminate his traction. "NASCAR doesnt police it and so everybody keeps jacking around on it and one of these days Im just going to lock all four (tires) down and stack the whole field up," Busch said. Chase Elliott, who finished third, saw it differently. "I saw Kyle make a rare mistake," Elliott said, adding that Busch was spinning his tires. Elliott finished third and remained the series leader by 13 points over Smith. Ty Dillon finished fourth, followed by Smith. The night began with a 1 hour, 20 minute rain delay after a shower arrived just after driver introductions. The last half of the race was run with teams watching radar as a storm moved in, and it was a total washout for Elliott Sadler, too. The Virginia native began the night third in points and seeking his third Nationwide victory on the track that bills itself "the worlds fastest half-mile." Sadler was running in the top five until his problems began. He was involved in three of the nights 10 caution flags, the first after an accident with Timmy Hill, and limped to the finish in 29th place. He fell from 16 points off the lead to 42 behind. Earlier, Kyle Larson and Busch dueled extensively, and Larson was the only one able to get the better of Busch, until Blaney slipped into him and Larson spun into the wall, ruining his night. "I thought he was just going to chase me to the top, but instead he ran us into the wall," Larson said. "I know Ryans a good kid. Its just frustrating. Its Bristol. Its just short-track racing." Larson wound up 26th despite leading 46 laps.

He started with two birdies and added three more on his last five holes at the Oceanico Victoria course for an 18-under total of 266.This could mean something or it could mean absolutely nothing. There are nine Blue Jays scheduled to take part in the clubs 4th Annual Winter Caravan, running from January 9-18. I say 4th Annual because the Caravan was an annual event in the clubs early years but was abandoned for a time, only to be revived in 2011. Skipper John Gibbons and the players will be making stops in six spots around Ontario, including Oshawa, Kingston, Peterborough, St. Catharines, London and Mississauga to drum up interest in the team and the upcoming season. The Blue Jays have done this from coast to coast over the years, and for some fans its their only chance to meet the players up close. But the point is that the players involved, you would think, will have a role with the 2014 squad - or at least in the beginning. In other words, the odds of them being dealt between now and January 9 would appear to lessen. The nine include pitchers Brandon Morrow, Todd Redmond and Dustin McGowan and reliever Steve Delabar, along with catcher Justin Thole, outfielders Colby Rasmus and Anthony Gose and 1B/DH Adam Lind. Of that group, Rasmus and Lind have both been mentioned in trade talk. However, if Alex Anthopoulos is still trying to move them now, youd have to wonder why they are on this list thats being publicized the way it is. Rasmus, Gose and Lind are actually repeaters from last years Caravan. The other who took part last year included Drew Hutchison, Jose Bautista, Brett Cecil, Aaron Loup and J.P Arencibia. None of those players were moved , save for J.P. who was cut loose a few weeks ago and then signed on with Texas. The Caravan doesnt guaranteee all these players will open the season as Blue Jays, it just show a degree of commitment from both sides at least for now.
Neto Brazil Jersey. The other day, former "Big League" catcher Ed Herrman passed away. He spent 11 years in the Majors and is best known for his time with the Chicago White Sox. He actually finished his career in 1978 as the backup to Hall of Famer Gary Carter. Ed "Hoggy" Herrman, besides being tough as nails, was known for his ability to catch knuckleballers. In 1972, he made some history by catching all 49 starts of lefty knuckler Wilber Wood. Yes, that was 49 starts, when today a good durable pitcher starts between 32 and 35 per season. Well, those 49 appearances working together by Herrman and Wood were the most of any battery since Hardie Henderson and catcher Sam Trott of the old Baltimore Orioles in the American Association, who were together for 52 back in 1884. I cant see anyone touching that modern day mark put together by Herrman and Wood. One more note on Ed Herrman. His grandfather Marty "Lefty" Herrman pitched in the Majors - one game to be exact. He pitched one shutout inning of relief for the Brooklyn Robins on July 10 of 1918. When we talk about the Angels Mike Trout and the Nationals Bryce Harper and how good they are at such a young age, it brings me back to Tigers Hall of Fame legend Al Kaline. In 1955 at the age of 20, Kaline won the American League batting title with a .340 average. He slugged 27 homers, drove in 102 runs and had 200 hits on the nose for the only time in his career. Al Kaline, one of the Tigers all-time greats, turned 79 years old on December 19.
