LeBron James inspired Cleveland Cavaliers to a season-saving 112-97 win over the defending champion Golden State Warriors to climb within 3-2 in the best-of-seven NBA Finals. Cleveland, facing elimination at the hands of the top-seeded Warriors, got 41 points each from James and Kyrie Irving and displayed a tenacious defense to set up another do-or-die game for the Cavaliers on Thursday in Cleveland. We are just happy we got another day, thats all we can ask for. We got another day to survive, James, who also had 16 rebounds and seven assists, said after the game. We understand this is a great team no matter who is out on the floor for those guys. They are the champions so weve got to be ready. With their season on the line, the Cavaliers exploded with their best game yet of the NBA Finals as James and Kyrie Irving proved too much for a Warriors team playing without suspended defensive stalwart Draymond Green. The Cavaliers duo became the first teammates to score at least 40 points in an NBA Finals game. They had two great games, two breakout games. We need those two guys to give us confidence early, and they both did that, Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue said about James and Irving. But Im just very excited and proud of the way we scrapped and continued to play hard. Thats how weve got to play. Thats us. Klay Thompson (11) had a team-high 37 points for the Warriors The game got off to a wild start and produced the best 24 minutes yet of the Finals as the Warriors and Cavaliers each displayed some incredible shot-making that left the teams tied 61-61 at halftime. It marked the highest-scoring first half in an NBA Finals game since the 1987 championship between the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics. But after a tight first half it was Cleveland who finally pulled ahead by 10 points late in the third quarter as Irving carried over the shooting clinic he put on during the first 24 minutes to keep the home crowd in check. With a chance to clinch the title on their home court, where they had lost just three times all season, the Warriors were unable to find a way back into the game as the Cavs stymied any bit of momentum Golden State tried to generate.Klay Thompson had a team-high 37 points for the Warriors on 11-of-20 shooting, including six three-pointers, but it was far from enough on this night. We had a good offensive first half, made some shots, had 61 points, and then kind of got bogged down in the second, said Warriors head coach Steve Kerr. We tried a lot of different things, and nothing seemed to work. It was one of those nights.Green will be back in the Warriors lineup for Thursdays pivotal Game Six after serving a one-game ban after being assessed his fourth flagrant foul from his scuffle with James in the previous contest. The Cavaliers are trying to become the first team to win a championship after falling behind 3-1 in the NBA Finals.  Also See: Golden State close in on title Westbrook pulls out of US team Kris Versteeg Jersey . Sitting on a seven-game winning streak since releasing Josh Smith last month, the Pistons trailed by as much as 23 points but had a chance to tie the score at the buzzer after an out-of-bounds call went their way following a replay review. But Kentavious Caldwell-Popes off-balance 3-pointer from the right wing was short, ending the winning streak. Paul Millsap added 17 points for the Eastern Conference-leading Hawks, who extended their winning streak to seven games, improving to 21-2 since late November. They have won eight in a row and 12 of their last 13 on the road. This was another test for us, another challenge to see how were going to react to it, and were past it, said Millsap. Caldwell-Pope fired up 23 shots, including 16 3-pointers, and led Detroit with 20 points. The Pistons set a franchise record by attempting 43 3-pointers, making just 13 of them. Caldwell-Pope missed all seven of his 3-point attempts over the first three quarters, then made four to lead a Pistons rally in the fourth. It came just three days after Detroit erased an 18-point deficit to beat San Antonio on Brandon Jennings last-second shot Tuesday. Against Atlanta, the Pistons trailed by 15 with under nine minutes remaining and got some help down the stretch. After Anthony Tolliver blocked Horford, Caldwell-Pope knocked down a leaning 3 at the other end to draw the Detroit within 105-101 with a minute remaining. Atlanta missed its last two field goal attempts and went 1-of-4 at the foul line, with Horford mmissing two.dddddddddddd After Millsap made 1-of-2 at the line with 17.2 seconds remaining, Kyle Singler missed a 3 for Detroit but the Pistons got it back on a jump ball and Greg Monroes dunk made it a three-point game. Atlantas inbounds pass to Horford at the other end was contested by Monroe and knocked out of bounds. The ball was awarded to Detroit with 1.2 seconds left, leading to Caldwell-Popes missed 3 at the buzzer. Jeff Teague had 14 points and 11 assists for the Hawks and DeMarre Carroll scored 13. Singler scored 16 points for Detroit while Monroe and Tolliver had 15 each. Atlanta led by as many as 13 in the first quarter after Thabo Sefolosha scored five of his 12 points during a 9-2 run that made it 27-14. We didnt come ready to play at all, said Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy. We played with no energy and intensity in the first half. We had better energy in the second half and especially down the stretch. The Hawks made eight of their 18 3-point attempts in the first half, including six in the second quarter to help them build a 23-point lead. They shot nearly 56 percent in the half, leading 64-45 at the break behind Millsaps 13 points. Singler and Jennings each made two 3-pointers during a 14-3 run in the third quarter that trimmed Detroits deficit from 20 points to nine. The Hawks pushed it back to 15 entering the fourth. Game Notes Detroit center Andre Drummond didnt play in the fourth quarter because he was sick and had no energy, Van Gundy said ... The Pistons hadnt lost since ditching Smith on Dec. 22. It was their longest winning streak since a 10-game run from Jan. 23-Feb. 13, 2008 ... Atlanta hosts Washington on Sunday ... Detroit hosts Brooklyn on Saturday. Wholesale NFL Jerseys ' ' '
