Facing the Vancouver Canucks may not be a boon to the Calgary Flames, who are riding their longest losing streak since setting a team record nearly three
decades ago.

Canucks on the road for the first time in three years Saturday night. The action

the teams longest skid since dropping a franchise-record 11 straight from Dec.
14, 1985 to Jan. 7, 1986. The Flames extended the current slide Friday with a
2-1 loss to Dallas. We had such a great start to the year, we dont want to just
waste it in just this one stretch here, center Joe Colborne said. We trust our
leadership, we trust our systems right now and its just a matter of going out
and doing it. Calgary hasnt done much lately against the Canucks (18-11-2),
losing eight in a row after falling 4-2 at home in the season opener Oct. 8. The
Flames have also dropped seven straight visits to Vancouver. While Calgary is
trying to win at Rogers Arena for the first time since Dec. 23, 2011, the
Canucks are looking to continue that dominance in an effort to end their own
five-game slide - a stetch in which theyve been outscored 19-7. Vancouvers
losing streak is its longest since a seven-game skid Jan. 27-Feb. 8. Obviously
every game is important, but the way the things have went in the past, we have
to make sure were ready to compete, right wing Derek Dorsett said. Obviously,
Calgary coming in, were right neck-and-neck with them. Theyre kind of in the
similar situation weve been in. Both teams are going to be desperate. Itll be an
intense game. Vancouver needs to get its power play going after failing to score
on 18 chances in the last six games, including an 0-for-4 effort in Wednesdays
2-0 home loss to the Stars. The top line of center Henrik Sedin, left wing
Daniel Sedin and right wing Radim Vrbata has been held without a point for three
games while combining for a minus-12. Still, the Sedins are tied with a
team-high 26 points, while Vrbata is three back. Other teams really key on that
line, coach Willie Desjardins said. We gotta have secondary scoring. Thats what
makes us good. If I gotta keep playing that line, they get tired when theyre
playing. Now, you gotta have scoring off the other units. Not a single Canucks
player has scored more than once in the past five games, though Henrik Sedin has
14 points in the last 10 meetings with the Flames. He set up both goals by
Daniel Sedin in a 5-1 home win over Calgary on April 13. Jiri Hudler scored for
the Flames in the season opener, and he had a point in four straight games
before being held without one against Dallas. The right wings 13 goals lead the
team, while his 30 points are second to Mark Giordanos 32. Giordano leads all
NHL defensemen in scoring after collecting eight points in 10 games. However, he
has just two in his last 10 visits to Vancouver.
