First Major Indo-Pak TV Serial

By Taran Adarsh, June 14th, 2004 - 1800 hrs IST

There has been a definite thawing of the icy relations between India and Pakistan. In the past few months, we have heard of an exchange of artists between the two nations, which is a slow but gradual process towards friendship and peace between India and Pakistan.

Continuing in this direction, an Indo-Pak TV serial, ANA [The Ego], brings together some of the finest actors from Pakistan and India.

The mega TV project from Pakistan stars Indian actors like Nausheen Ali Sardar [of KKUSUM fame], Aamna Sharif [KASHISH], Kunika Sadanand Lall, Pariksh*t Sahani and Sheela David. Artistes from Pakistan include Humayun Saeed, Talat Hussain, Munawwar Saeed, Samina Peerzada, Javeria Abbasi, Javeria Jalil and Ahsan Khan.

S. Suleman, who has produced more than 50 Lollywood films and now directs major TV serials there, directs this serial. Singers from India, Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal, have rendered the title song for the serial, while the music is composed by Jatin-Lalit.

This is also the first time that two popular actors, namely Humayun Saeed and Abdullah Kadwani, have formed a production company in Pakistan called Seventh Sky. “I hope such joint ventures help us understand each other and bring us [India and Pakistan] closer,” Humayun Saeed said, adding that the serial was ‘born’ soon after the peace process was initiated.

The soap, which revolves around strong family bonds, will be marketed in India and Pakistan and be shown on leading television channels in both countries. It has been shot in Dubai, Sharjhah and Pakistan.

Talking of future plans, Humayun Saeed revealed that he had plans of starting feature-films, with actors and technicians from the two countries. “But our immediate next project is a serial titled PEHCHAN, which will have Juhi Parmar in the lead along with other lead actors from Pakistan, which are yet to be finalized. The serial will be entirely shot in New York,” Saeed disclosed.
