Plans are also afoot to hold a special screening of the film DOBARA for President General Parvez Musharraf.
Jackie Shroff , Raveena Tandon and Mahima Choudhary starrer Dobara is being billed as a first major milestone in the direction of improving people-to-people relations between India and Pakistan.
Even as the Governments of the two countries are still deliberating on steps for greater cultural exchanges between India and Pakistan, including release of Indian films across the border, Dobara, is all set to have its premiere in Lahore.
The premiere of the film, which features, for the first time, Pakistani actor Muammar Rana in a lead role along with Raveena, Jackie and Mahima, is being organized by former Pakistan cricketer and the chairman of the Tehriq-e-Insaf party Imran Khan. The proceeds from the event would be donated to the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer clinic, built by the cricketer-turned politician in memory of his late mother.
A love triangle, Dobara, is the directorial debut of Shashi Ranjan, convenor of Indian Television Academy who had earlier written, produced and acted in the film 'Siyasat' featuring Kumar Gaurav and Kimi Katkar.
The premiere would see the presence of who's who of Pakistan's glamour world, politics and its film industry, Lollywood.
The film's producer Shashi Ranjan said that his wife Anu had visited Pakistan a few months back, as part of an Indian delegation, to meet Information and Broadcasting Minister Sheikh Rashid and the then Prime Minister Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain as well as other ministers and sought permission from the Pakistan authorities to hold the film's premiere in Lahore and Islamabad. The authorities had asked for a reason for the permission to be granted to premiering Dobara in Pakistan when none had been granted till date.
However, Ranjan said when Pakistani actor Muammar Rana had come to India to act in the film, he had been granted a regular visa and not a tourist one, which showed a formal consent of both governments in extending cultural interaction between the two countries. This is what perhaps has prompted the Pakistan Government to acquiesce to the request and grant permission to hold the premiere in their country, he said.
About reports of a special screening for Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, Ranjan said all the arrangements were being handled by Imran. He, however, added that a special show for General Musharraf was planned in Islamabad whenever the President was free.
The film has music by Anu Malik , lyrics by Javed Akhtar and features songs by playback singers such as Alisha Chinoy and Reshma.
