The Master has had its big debuts in Venice and last night at the Toronto International Film Festival, but Paul Thomas Anderson is continuing his
Exclusivity Tour in the build up to the film?? national release later this
month.

The highly anticipated movie, which stars Joaquin Phoenix, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams, already has has had special one-shot screenings in Los
Angeles and Chicago. Now Austin gets to see it. Anderson has cut an exclusive
clip for the benefit screening (which I??e posted after the jump).
The Alamo Drafthouse in downtown Austin will screen The Master Monday at 7:30 p.m. in 70mm, the way Anderson prefers it. Proceeds will go to The Film
Foundation, Martin Scorsese?? film preservation organization.
The clip shows Joaquin Phoenix as a troubled serviceman taking a military Rorschach test and revealing that he?? got a seriously one-track mind. The clip
contains language that you may not want your children or coworkers to hear, so
take care where you watch it.
The Master stars Phoenix as a troubled vet who gets involved with a charismatic religious leader played by Hoffman. Adams plays the wife of
Hoffman?? character, who is loosely inspired by L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of
Scientology.
It opens Sept. 14 in limited release and starts to expand on Sept. 21.
Anderson wrote and directed There Will Be Blood and Magnolia, so his films come with a set of expectations. That is why Oscar prognosticators were
predicting that The Master would be a strong Academy Award contender long before
anyone ever saw it.
