How to resolve File explorer not working error
-Try to restart in task manager
Start task manager on your computer by pressing ctrl + shift + Esc. Once the window gets opened, locate Windows explorer in it. By the way, file explorer can also be appearing on your screen as a windows explorer. Right-click on the option and choose to end the task. Now, look at the top of the task manager window. You will find the file option. Click on it and choose “Run new task.” In order to create a new task, type explorer.exe in the box and press enter.
-Try the new updates
Several times, updating the Windows fixes a lot of problems. In order to launch an update, press Windows + I. This will launch settings where you can click on updates and security. Now, you can see many pending updates that are awaiting you to install them. Install the updates and reboot your system to see if file explorer has started working again. In order to reboot the system, click on the windows icon and select the restart option. Once the step is done, Windows or File explorer may start working again.

-Clear space in your hard drive
File explorer might not be working because your hard drive may not have much space available in it. In order to free up space, try transferring the files to an external hard drive or flash drive.
-Try to change display settings
Sometimes your display settings interfere with the working of file explorer. You can check your display settings. Under display settings, go to scale and layout. Set the size of the text, apps, and the other items to 100%.
-Try troubleshoot option
Windows 10 comes with the option of troubleshooting under its trouble maintenance. Launch control panel to run the troubleshoot option. You will find the option of system maintenance. As you will click on it you will see new windows open up, click on Next to initiate a run.
-Restore Windows
If nothing works out, try restoring the Windows. In order to do it, search for sysdm.cpl and open it. You will find the system protection tab; make sure that the protection setting for C drive is turned on. Turn it on and keep continuing with the next steps. You will see that many restore points are created for your operating system. Click on the finish and wait for the process to complete.
