JOINING 2 COMPUTERS? WELL I'M NOT SURE WHETHER IT IS POSSIBLE IF THEY ARE NOT BOTH OF THE SAME OPERATING SYSTEM, BUT THE PROCEDURE GOES SOMETHING LIKE THIS:
I DID THIS WHEN JOINING TWO COMPUTERS USING WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL, I'M ASSUMING U CAN DOP THE SAME ON ME AND 2000:

First of all note each computer’s location and its hardware, including peripherals such as printers and modems. Naming each computers and its location aids this step.

Next if you wish to share your internet connection, you will need to choose your ICS host (Internet connection Sharing) The ICS host has a direct connection to the internet, either by dial-up modem or high-speed link, it provides access to the Internet for other computers on the network also. (Ideally it should be running Microsoft XP)
Assuming that the network technology chosen is Ethernet or wireless LAN. For an Ethernet LAN you will need to install a network interface card or NIC, in each computer (you can also find these as USB connectors instead of having to open up the computers to install the NICs), and run cabling between the computers.
The next step is the installation of the adapters, Install the network adaptors and install your modem on the ICS host computer (you can also let the computers connect to the Internet independently by installing modems on each).
The next step is the cabling of the computers, using the chosen cable/connectors physically cable the computers (and hubs or routers) together. You won’t need to do this if you’ve chosen the wireless route.
After all the cabling has been done, all the machines, printers, scanners, and other peripherals need to be switched on. Now make sure that the ICS host is switched on and make sure it is connected to the internet (this can be done by opening an internet browser e.g. Internet Explorer and visiting websites) then run the Network setup wizard on the ICS host computer.

To run the Network Setup Wizard on the ICS host, click “Start”, “Control Panel”, “Network and Internet Connections” and then “Setup Or Change Your Home Or Small Office Network”. Follow the instructions in each screen and press Next to continue.
Then network setup wizard will guide you through the following tasks:
·     Configuring your network adaptors (NICs).
·     Configuring your computers to share a single Internet connection.
·     Naming each computer. (Each computer requires a name to identify it on the network.)
·     Sharing the Shared Files folder. Any files in this folder will be accessible to all computers on the network.
·     Sharing printers.
·     Installing the Internet Connection Firewall to guard you from online attacks.

The final step is to run network setup wizard on all of the computers
1.     Insert the Windows XP CD in the first computer’s drive.
2.      When the XP Welcome Menu appears, click Perform Additional Tasks.
3.     Click “Setup Home or Small Office Networking and follow the prompts.”
4.     Repeat steps taken to set up the network connection on the host computer for each computer on your network.

Make sure you maintain an active Internet connection on your host computer as you proceed through this process.
If you don’t have a CD-ROM drive on one of the network computers, you can run the Network Setup Wizard from a floppy disk:
If you don’t have a CD-ROM drive on one of the network computers, you can run the Network Setup Wizard from a floppy disk:
1.     While running the Network Setup Wizard on the ICS host computer, select the option to copy the Network Setup Wizard to a floppy disk.
2.     Once you’ve completed setup on the ICS host, take the floppy to the next computer and insert it in the drive.
3.     Double-click My Computer.
4.     Double-click 3½ Floppy (A:).
5.     Double-click netsetup.exe.

EMM HOPE IT HELPS, I'M NOT SURE OF THE ACCURACY, BUT IT GOT ME A GOOD ICT GRADE
