Saima the producer bashes her film actors
by GHULAM HUSSAIN
'Majajan' is the first production from the house of Lollywood's most sought-after actress - numero uno Saima. Presently in post-production, the film is being processed and mixed in Bangkok.
In an exclusive interview with The Nation Plus, Saima said that prior to the release of 'Majajan' she didn't want to make any tall claims, because "it is eventually the masses who have the right to reject or accept a film. All I can say is that I have made this film with all my heart and soul, and put in my very best."
However, Saima said that she had to go through "many bitter experiences…due to the non-cooperative attitude of my costars."
She refrained from giving out the names of these actors, but said that 'Majajan' suffered incessant delays thanks to these people.
Eventually, quoting Saud, she said, "Thanks to Saud alone, I as a producer had to bear monetary loss worth a few lakh rupees. Due to him, we had to break and later re-make our main sets for at least four times. All this happened because he would give us dates and then vanish to USA."
Saima said that she had now gotten over the hurt and the pain, and was working full steam ahead.
'Majajan' is now slated for an Eidul Fitr release this year, she declared.
Saima further said that it was too early to say how 'Majajan' would fare at the box office, "I am working ambitiously, and feel that there should be more good films coming out from the film industry."
About Syed Noor, she said, "He has worked very hard and by the Grace of Allah that shows on screen."
Saima revealed that the 'Majajan' plot was inspired from the verses of Baba Bulleh Shah, and said that a montage had also been picturised on the verses of the great sufi poet. According to Saima, there are 12 songs in 'Majajan', which is a record number of songs in any Pakistani film so far.
About her own character in the film, she said that she played a village belle.
'Majajan', it may be mentioned here, is a tragic tale of love, based on a true story. As per Saima's claim, "I have shown romance the way no one else has done on our silver screen."
Shan plays the main male lead opposite Saima.
After seeing the rushes of 'Majajan', Saima said that several producers had approached her to direct their films, offering her big amounts of money also, but she had refused them all because she wanted to concentrate on the few films she had as an actress.
"I will come into direction only after I quit films," she said.
At present, Saima is due out on a Punjabi multi-starrer, titled 'Kurriyan Shehr Diyaan', directed by Sangeeta.
About co-production with India, Saima said, "All this talk about join ventures with India is ridiculous. Why should the Indians cast us when they have got loads of talent back home?"
Saima said that no one in India knew about Pakistani film artistes, "Nobody there knows who is Shan and who is Saima. Those Pakistani artistes who are working in Indian films have actually gone there with sifarish."
