When the mercury starts climbing up into the high degrees
A gentle breath of freshness is the flowing of a breeze
That cools the sweaty brow and relieves the burning heat
Rising from the sidewalks and the asphalt of the street
The gentle breeze moves silently upon its cooling trip
To free the dry and arid land from summer’s fiery grip
It moves across the water causing ripples as it goes
Then reaches open windows and gently through them flows
As it continues on its journey o’er the rooftops it will pass
Bending back the treetops and rustling through the grass
When its mission’s finally over it will gently fade away
And wait until it’s called again on another summer day
Sitting by my window,
I could feel the chill breeze.
She came in this mid summer night,
As if she had lost her way.
In this scorching heat,
She was a welcome guest.
Not once a while, but
She was continuous in her style.
Making her way thro’ our heart,
She made normals into poets.
