Once, walking on a midwinter's morning
I spied two lovers in a brilliant glow
Sitting by the streams of a waterfall, falling
And laughing in ways an old novel would know.
Their speech appeared natural, sounded so pure
As if they were one but defined as two
And the shine to their eyes and faces could lure
Any who coveted their love, soft and true.
Though many souls were wandering silently
But one took the feeling quite literally
And kept it in her locket of hearts, adoring
This prized possession, her gift from above;
And I? I could claim to know something of love
Once, walking on a midwinter's morning.
