Not A Tourist With These Simple Tips March 4 , 2013 | Author: Anton Winkle | Posted in Travel and Leisure
Travel is something we all look forward to. It is a break in the monotony of every day life. It is a chance to relax and live stress free for a week or two,
away from work and all responsibilities. Here is some advice for the next time
you go on vacation.

Consider traveling to small towns if you are on a budget. Small towns have their own unique charm and attractions. You can usually find historical
districts and picturesque scenery in town. Accommodations are usually very
affordable. Because the town is not a tourist attraction, this is a good option
for a quiet getaway.

To plan the best trip possible, select your accommodations well ahead of time. Make price comparisons for several of your chosen type of lodgings and
budget enough money to pay for your favorite. Then if your first choice is not
available, you’ll have at least two alternatives from which to choose.

If you’re going on a road trip with kids, try bringing some cookie sheets along with you. They’re great to use as lap trays for eating in the car. The
having the edges curved up with prevent any spills too and they’re easy to clean
off quickly. You can also flip them over and the kids can use them as desks for
coloring, writing, or playing a game.

If you have allergies to cats, dogs or even dust, you should bring your allergy medicine along with you on the plane. People tend to bring their animals
along on flights. Even if the animal isn’t accompanying them on the trip, they
still have pet dander on their clothes.

Keep your bags on unupholstered furniture to prevent any kind of bed bug infestation. Check the room thoroughly to see if there are any but if you are
feeling at all unsure, keep the baggage up. That is the way that the bed bugs
are going to hitch a ride back to your home and begin their infestation there.

If you are planning on going on a cruise and want to do a little shopping aboard, do your research. Different cruise ships offer different amenities. Find
the boat that is right for you. There are so many things to do on a cruise boat,
so find the one that will be fun for you and your companion.

Go easy on the alcohol. Many people like to have a small drink when they are traveling by plane to relax them , but remember that alcohol will dehydrate you and can alter your perceptions. If
you chose a larger alcoholic drink, you could arrive at your destination tired
and grumpy, or even worse, too drunk to collect your own baggage and find your
way to your accommodation.

Label your things. You know all of those return address labels you have accumulated over the years? Put them to good use as labels for your items. Stick
them on everything from luggage and handbags to cameras and umbrellas. In case
you lose an item, it will be much easier to get it returned to you.

When traveling, it’s not always necessary to stay together. Let Mom take the kids one day while Dad enjoys a round of golf. The next day Mom should relax in
the spa while Dad and the kids enjoy some pool time. Splitting up allows each
parent to enjoy a much needed break during travel time.

When buying airline tickets, purchase them as far in advance as possible. Two months in advance is when the cheapest flights are available through the
airlines. If you know you are traveling for the holidays, it is especially
important to buy your airline tickets as early as you can to get the cheapest

If you’re staying in a hotel and you like coffee, don’t use the tap water to make it. Instead, get some ice from the ice machine and put it in the coffee
maker the night before to melt. The ice machines use filtered water so you’ll
get better tasting coffee!

Check out last minute travel deals. If you have the flexibility in schedule and destination, you can save a lot of money by booking your travel at the last
minute. Many hotels and airlines drastically reduce prices for dates in the near
future to fill seats and rooms that will otherwise go empty.

Purchasing bottled water at the airport can be very expensive, so take an empty water bottle with you and fill it at a public fountain after passing
through security. Airplane cabins are notorious for causing dehydration, so you
will need to have a ready supply of water with you throughout the duration of
your flight.

Protect your children when traveling by making sure they are prepared in case they get lost. For older children, arrange a convenient meeting place where your
family can regroup if separated. Younger children should carry a card with their
name , the names of their parents and a contact number. Additional information
regarding medications and allergies is also helpful. Instruct your children to
give the card to a police officer if they get lost.

When travelling on a road trip, make sure you bring a bag with you for trash. Even people who don’t normally eat in the car will during long road trips,
especially if you don’t want to stop to eat and add more time to your trip. A
trash bag can help you keep the mess and clutter to a minimum.

For added security, bring a doorstop with you to your hotel room. Some hotel locks are flimsy
