MANCHESTER, England -- England midfielder Michael Carrick has extended his contract with Manchester United, keeping him at the club until June 2015 with an
option of a further year.

part of the United team since joining from Tottenham in 2006. United manager
David Moyes says "Michael is a great reader of the game and has excellent
passing ability. He is an exceptional man and a true professional." In his seven
years at United, the 32-year-old Carrick has won five Premier League titles and
the Champions League in 2008. In a club statement released Friday, Carrick says
"I have won many trophies in my years playing here and I am looking forward to
achieving more in the future."

Devils in exchange for centre Andrei Loktionov and a conditional third-round

Olympic bronze medal winner with Finland, is currently in the second year of a
four-year deal worth an average annual value of $4.75 million. In 606 career
games with the Hurricanes and Chicago Blackhawks the 31-year--old has scored 138
goals and 186 assists.
