Eid films may boost industry




The three films released on Eidul Fitr have earned good business so far and are expected to boost the sagging film industry in Pakistan. The films are Commando, Pappu Lahoria and Qayamat.

According to a Daily Times survey, Urdu-language film Commando has so far attracted the maximum number of viewers while Punjabi-language film Pappu Lahoria was in second position followed by Urdu-language movie Qaymat.

Commando is directed by Syed Noor. This is his first hit film after a number of flops after his magnum opus Choorian. Commando should support his fading image as film director. Commando’s cast includes Shan, Saima, Meera, Moamar Rana, Zara Sheikh and others. Syed Noor was reluctant to release his home production Larki Punjaban in the Pakistani circuit on Eid, which was released in England last month.

Pappu Lahoria is drawing crowds because of its hot songs. Singer Naseebo Lal is an added attraction in the film and very popular among the lower middle class. She has made her acting debut through Pappu Lahoria.

Ms Lal has performed a dhamaal (a form of dance) in the film. Directed by Masood Butt, Pappu Lahoria has Shan, Saima, Meera, and Moamar Rana as its main cast.

Qaymat, a romantic flick, is considered family entertainment. Directed by Sangeeta, the film includes Shan, Saima, Moamar Rana, Nirma Khushboo and others.

Shan and Mr Rana have starred in all three films while Meera Nirma and Kushboo have performed in the two Eid films while Zara Sheikh has starred in only one. Shan-Saima couple is present in all the three flicks and is considered a guarantee for the success of a film.

The real judgement comes after 10 days of the release when the Eid rush will cool down and film critics and serious cineophiles decide which films are successes or not.
