KARACHI: The Gizri police on Sunday picked up the famous pop singer, Ali Haider, along with his two friends, including a Lahore-based model girl, on suspicion of consuming alcohol.
According to the police, Abdul Aziz, Nazim UC-6, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town, who resides in the locality, telephoned the Madadgar-15 and complained about some immoral activities in a residential building. Responding promptly to the call, a police party raided the building and picked up three persons, including the model girl, who were reportedly consuming alcohol, the police added.
The persons picked up by the police were identified as the famous pop singer, Ali Haider, the Lahore-based model girl, Sadia alias Neha, and Naeem Quamar. The detainees were brought to the Medico-Legal Section of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for their medical examination to ascertain whether they were under the influence of alcohol or not, the police said.
TPO Clifton Muneer Ahmed Shaikh told The News that the police have picked up Ali Haider and his friends and sent them to the JPMC for medical examination. A case would be registered against them on the basis of the medical report, and if the medico-legal officer reserved his report, the detainees would be set free on personal bond as per law, he added.
The Gizri police have been siding with the detainees because a senior police officer had ordered them to release Ali Haider and his friends, sources told The News.
At the time when they were being produced for medical examination, Ali Haider and his friends were not handcuffed, while as per practice when a man detained by the police and is produced for medical examination, he is produced in handcuffs.
As the news of Ali Haider’s detention reached the city, several press photographers rushed to the Gizri police station, where they were locked in a room on the orders of the SHO.
