AVON LAKE, OH
— The city of Avon http://www.officialmapleleafsshop.com/mats-sundin-jersey-c-1_3.html Lake is sponsoring neighbor-versus-neighbor competition this year. Namely, residents will be asked to battle it out for the title of best holiday lights and decoration display in the city.
Contemplating the competition, it's hard not to picture Clark Griswold (from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation) turning his house into a low-watt sun with strings and strings (and strings and strings) of Christmas lights and plastic Santas and reindeer.
Luckily, the Avon Lake contest should involve less structural damage to home and more festive community building.
Here's how the competition will work.
First, both residents and local businesses will be able to take part in the contest. Second, interested participants will need to register with the Parks and Recreation Department. Don't worry, it's free to register. Registration can be completed here.
Then comes the fun part. Or the grueling labor, depending on how you look at it. But residents and business owners will need to construct a holiday display. Then take a picture of their work and submit it to the Avon Lake Parks and Recreation office by Dec. 10.
Voting will take place from Dec. 11 to Dec. 15. Pictures of the various displays will be posted on Facebook and each "like" that a photo gets will be counted as one vote. The display with the most "likes" will be declared the winner. Winners will be announced during the Holiday Lights Tour on Dec. 15.
To be considered for the contest, photos must include a name and address for participants. Photos will not be posted online until that information is provided. The longer a photo is posted online, the more time it has to accrue "likes."
Voting will begin Dec. 11 and end at noon on Dec. 15.
Photos can be submitted in one of three ways. First, submissions can be emailed to this address.
[email protected]. Photos can also be

Simplest of all, submission can be posted to the Avon Lake Parks and Rec Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ALParksandRec/
Plus, the winning family will win more than bragging rights. The city said on its website there will be some kind of prize for the best decorative display.
