Glamour & Gul aplenty in Kune Tum Se… promos

'This time terror has the face of love,' goes a slogan for Lollywood actor-turned-director Ajab Gul's latest venture, Kune Tum Se Itna Pyar Hai. Fashioned in the thriller genre, the film is tipped to take off from where Gul's last film, Khoye Ho Tum Kahan, a murder mystery, left.

The jubilant director held a private showing of the film's 5-minute long promo at a local cinema, Sunday evening, which was attended by a select crowd of people from the film industry, including veteran actor Muhammad Ali, director Aslam Dar, besides a flock of media men and a stray Waqar Yunis who was spotted avoiding the camera lights.

Kune Tum…'s leading lady, Veena was not present on the occasion because of her engagements in Holland. The other girl in the film, Priya was also conspicuous by her absence. The entire limelight was stolen by Meera, who cut a glistening figure, apparently at her newfound celebrity status in Bollywood. However, a word about her leaving the much-tomtommed Mahesh Bhatt film, Nazar, unfinished kept buzzing in the air.

Debuting hero, Babrik looked graceful sporting straight hair, a clean shave and a long coat - incidentally, everything he hasn't donned in the film - but also slightly unnerved, pitched amongst the veterans.
Receiving guests at the theatre entrance gate, a pony-tailed Gul was geniality personified.

Eventually, the wait was over. Following a whole lineup of slick trailers of upcoming Columbia sci-fi ventures that seemed to humble Gul's efforts, the promos of Kune Tum… swooshed across the theatre hall, making the grand Digital announcement.

Not bad. That is the first thing even the worst critic of Lollywood is going to utter after watching the promos. Some of the action and fight sequences are actually quite well canned. The songs 'sound' catchy, thanks to Gul's decision to rope in some of the best playback singers from across the border, including Shreya Ghoshal (of Devdas fame) who is at her vocal best in O mere saathiya, and Udit Narayan whose duet with Alka Yagnik, Ik larki ne mera dil churaya has an instant charm.

In his last film, Gul shot extensively in the northern areas of the country, and he does the same in Kune Tum…
Sana has a surprise guest appearance in an item number, Mujhe ishq huwa, which is likely to appeal to the front-benchers. Ditto for leading lady, Veena.

For his part, Gul shows a strong screen presence in what is supposed to be a negative avatar, again.
