A few days back cable operators from all over the country called on a strike after association of cable operators failed to convince PEMRA on the permission to broadcast Indian Entertainment channels on cable in Pakistan.




It is a pity we are at threshold of twenty first century where every country is looked as a ground of its own making progress and development while keeping its identity intact and some particular societal clusters are enforcing backward. As media is a base for the propagation of the identity of any country which includes its religion, culture, civilization and moral values. Opening boundaries for Indian media means to diminish boundaries of two different societies.




We have an Islamic culture which we are trying to flourish more and more from last many decades in Pakistan and with few exceptions it is lucid in its implications. And India has different culture to what we have and what is being broadcasted on their dozens of channels is even far more from their own culture which can be said ‘quasi representation’ easily. Is this for what cable operators are dying for?




This turn I should appreciate PEMRA under chairmanship of Mian Javed who has denied the unlawful demands strictly and also stressed cable operators to promote Pakistani private channels if govt channels have not gained any color yet.




While going through the condemnation of cable operators and appreciation of ministry of information and PEMRA, one thing can also be noticed as to why cable operators are demanding such queer permissions which even according to some of them are so?


PEMRA ‘s responsibility is also to bring up more investments in competition with 25 Govt channels of Dur Darshan and almost as much private channels from Indian side.
