Is ‘Waapsi’ the return of good cinema?
GHULAM HUSSAIN
LAHORE: Will producer Shahzad Gul and first-time director, writer and lead actor Majid Abdul Razzak be able to save Lollywood from complete extinction? That is the million-dollar question the crisis-stricken film industry is asking, with regard to Majid’s latest offering, titled 'Waapsi – The Return'.
It is the industry’s sheer misfortune that today it is without its legendary film makers – the likes of Anwar Kamal Pasha, Riaz Shahid, Khalil Qaiser, Masood Pervez, Hassan Tariq, S Suleman, Munshi Dal, Farid Ahmad, Haider Chaudhry and Waheed Dar. In the present situation, Shahzad Gul and UAE based Majid Abdul Razzak deserve kudos for at least attempting to make a clean, entertaining film. All told, the director’s command on the film is superb. The cinematographer’s job is also commendable. Released Friday last, 'Waapsi – The Return' boasts the kind of stuff the educated cine-goer can find appeal in. Or, so the makers of the film claim.
Adapted for screen from the classic Alexander Dumas novel, ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’, the film has been shot at the beautiful locales of UAE and Pakistan. The cast of the film includes Majid Abdul Razzak, Veena Malik, Shamyl Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Saleem Sheikh, Imran Abbas, Mona Lisa, Amber, Shakeel, Maria Wasti, Faisal Rehman and Qavi Khan. Lyrics and dialogues have been written by Prof Aqeel Ruby, while music is composed by Wajahat Attre.
Saleem Sheikh plays a corrupt officer who is ready to step on his own father for his personal benefits. Maria Wasti plays his second wife. She is a jealous spouse and a scheming spouse.
'Waapsi' is a simple but passionate story of an ordinary man driven into revenge by force of circumstances.

Well i think so if there is a news from website then we can make a new topic,,,,!
Anyways,Geo showed the movie review of Waapsi at Nadia Khan Show,The reviewer appreciated the movie. But unfortunately it did not do tht much well becuz.....(hey i just called Prince Cinema to ask which flick they r showin,he named an English movie,I asked him Waapsi hatgai,he said yes.I asked him was the fim a flop?He said"Kis ney kaha,Film ney to top-class business kiya!".How can he say tht? Many newspapers have declared Waapsi as a flop!)
1)There was no proper promotion.Only ads of the film were there in newspapers, lack of trailers on tv,in short no hype was created for da movie. The movie had an silent release.
2)Becuz of this the ppl who came to the cinema halls to watch it were not those for whom the film was made. The film was made for educated masses not for those who watch gujjar masala films.
I remember when the Geo Walaz were takin the response of da film at cinema the ppl dere were not good! One person said:"Is Film mein to ganney hi itney kam hai..kam sey kam 5,6 gaaney to honey chahiye!",this sayin proves my statement.
Well the movie seems to be really promising.Shehzad Gul should re-release this movie in cinemas again with proper publicity. Many hits in Hollywood had been first flopped then when release with proper publicity were hit!
Wat Say?

charizmatic said: well actually shehzad gul didn't produced the movie its majid abdul rehman himself who produced the movie and shehzad gul's name was used as a dummy and 2ndly its a huge flop the film was only released in one theater and was replaced by an english movie just after 2 weeks.
Well even i think so the same but we dont have any proof!
I think so this film is da same film which Veena Malik used to talk about by da name of Reward and Punishment!
Well i used to also think da same tht Waapsi is a flop but when i called Prince Cinema they said tht Waapsi was a hit!I was shocked!
And yesterday i watched the show on CNBC they showed Prince Cinema in which Waapsi was being screened and to my surprise there was a HUGE AMOUNT OF RUSH!MOST OF DA PPL LIKED THE FILM!
I AM WAITING FOR A MAGZINE WHICH WILL TELL THE BOX OFFICE REPORT OF THE FILM AND I WILL SHARE IT WID U GUYZ!

How can u say tht!?????????????????
Its a Feature Film, listen, the telefilm is shot on normal camera which is mostly d 30 or d 50 whereas a feature film is in cinemascope and is shot on 35mm Cameras for projectors in cinema so there no point in declaring a film a TELEFILM!
Waapsi is a huge-budget film it was written in da newspaper and trailer!
