Butterfly Wings

Butterfly wings flutter
Creating a breeze
Maybe it is true
That a cyclone just
Started on the other side

Hearts melt at their touch
Gentle, yet strong
Beauty in their rebirth
They must die to live

Do they fear as
They spin their cocoon
Do they wonder if this is it
Or do they know there is more

They break out of their shell
Slowly, taking the time needed
To build their strength so
That they can spread their wings and fly

Once someone helped one of them escape
Opening up their cocoon for them
It died - it was too soon to live
Butterlies need time

Sitting here looking
Wondering what it is all about
It isn't just about me
It is about you - and them
It is about us, all of us

We need to find a way to die
So we can live, so we can
Go on, so we can grow strong again
We need to open up our wings

Stepping out into the unknown
Scary, always scary - that first step
But then - the wonders, the beauty
Like butterfly wings glistening in the sun
